This page walks you through everything, from scanning a scary letter to getting it resolved. Nasty Letters is not a law firm: we provide lay advocacy and document preparation services, and we say so plainly wherever it matters.
Go to Scan a letter in the menu, or the "Scan my letter free" button on the homepage.
If we can price your kind of letter from the scan, you see one of three fixed prices, always including VAT, before you do anything else. If the letter offers an early payment discount, we tell you honestly that a failed appeal usually forfeits that lower price, so you can weigh both paths.
There is a fair-use limit of a few scans per hour. The scan is a quick automated read, not legal advice; a case manager checks everything before we act.
The price depends on the kind of letter, and you always see it before paying anything. Every price below is the total including VAT, and there is nothing further to pay us:
You have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of creating your account. If we have not yet done any work on your case, any upfront fee is refunded in full.
Letter deadlines are usually shorter than 14 days, so signing up asks you to tick a box requesting that we start straight away rather than wait the cancellation period out. You have to tick it for us to take the case, and we record the date you did. It does not take your cancellation right away: if you cancel after work has started, we keep a fair share of the fee for the work done and refund the rest. Once your formal challenge has been sent, the service has been performed and the right to cancel ends. You can see the date you asked us to start on your Account page.
To cancel, email enquiries@nastyletters.co.uk or message your case manager from your case page. No form or reason is needed. The full wording is in the terms of service.
Click "Start my case". If you scanned a letter in the last hour, your scan carries through: the signup page shows your letter and its price, and there is nothing to re-enter. Otherwise you pick which kind of letter you have.
Parking, speeding and court routes create your account and then take you straight to Stripe for secure payment; we never see your card details. Letters we cannot price from the scan go to priority review instead: your account is created with nothing to pay, and a case manager quotes you before any work starts.
As soon as you sign up we email you a link to confirm your address. Please click it. Deadline reminders and case updates can only reach an address that works, and the commonest reason someone hears nothing from us is a typo at signup.
Nothing is locked while you wait. Your account and your case work exactly as normal, and you will see a reminder at the top of the page with a "Send it again" button if you need another link. Links last 7 days, and each one can only be used once. If you change your email address later, we send a fresh link to the new address.
After signup you land on the case form. If you scanned your letter, the basics are already filled in: the letter type, who sent it, and the amount. Check them, then tell us what happened in your own words; the more detail the better. You can upload the letter and any evidence (PDF, JPG, PNG, GIF or Word documents, up to 10MB each).
Every case gets a reference like DC-2026-4F2A1B. You can have up to 5 cases open at once.
Each case appears as a card, with the most urgent first. Cards are deliberately brief so you can see at a glance whether anything needs you:
Tap anywhere on a card to open the case. The full conversation, progress tracker and documents live there.
Case statuses you will see: New, In progress, Action needed, Resolved, Closed.
When your case manager records the result, we email you straight away and your case page updates to match.
Every time you pay us, we email you a receipt straight away: what it was for, the amount, the date and our payment reference. Receipts always arrive, even if we are not able to reach you by email for anything else.
Payments in the account menu lists everything you have paid, each showing what it was for, the amount, the date, whether it is paid or refunded, and a "Receipt details" section with the same information as the email. If we ever refund a payment, it shows here as refunded with the date.
When something happens on your case, we email you a prompt to sign in; these emails never contain your case content, so your case file stays behind your login. There is one exception: when your case ends, the result email tells you the outcome, so you know what to expect before you sign in.
We also check automatically, and email you a reminder 7 days and again 1 day before a deadline on your case. These reminders are the same shape as any other notification: a prompt to sign in, no case content.
The menu shows your name; the dropdown lists Account, Payments, Help and Sign out, in that order. Forgotten your password? Use Reset password on the sign-in page; the link we email you lasts one hour.
Account (menu) is where you manage your details:
You can install Nasty Letters on your phone or computer so it opens from its own icon, like an app. On your phone, open the browser menu and choose "Add to Home Screen" (Safari on iPhone) or "Install app" (Chrome on Android). On a computer, Chrome and Edge show an install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar. Nothing extra to download, and it works exactly like the website; you need an internet connection to see your case.
There is a plain-English guide for each letter type explaining your rights and how the challenge works: parking fines, speeding tickets, traffic fines, court summonses, and ANPR or CCTV camera fines.
The contact page explains how to reach us. General enquiries get a reply within 2 working days; case messages within 48 hours; court or bailiff letters are reviewed as a priority. For help with your account or the site itself, email support@nastyletters.co.uk.
If something has gone wrong and you want to make a complaint, the complaints page (footer, under Company) explains how: email complaints@nastyletters.co.uk with your case reference if you have one. We acknowledge your complaint within 48 hours, a case manager who wasn't involved in your case looks into it, and we write back with our answer. If you're not satisfied, you can ask for a second review by a senior member of our team; this never affects your case, and it doesn't remove any right you have.
